Pius Sawa

Pius Sawa is a freelance science journalist operating in Kampala, Western Kenya and across the region to cover science stories, environment, health, agriculture and other topics. He currently reports for Agfax and New Agriculturist, Farm Radio Weekly in Canada, Radio Netherlands Worldwide and Reuters AlterNet. Pius is currently setting up a training facility in Kakamega, Western Kenya, to help rural radio journalists produce features on science.

  • Training scientists at the National University of Butare in Rwanda on improving links with the media (2009)
  • Training science journalists on behalf of Kenya's Media Owners Association
  • Training Ugandan Health Journalists on behalf of the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ)
  • Won numerous awards for radio reporting and scriptwriting on climate change and peace, and international awards for excellence in journalism from BBC, CTA, UCIP, US Embassy, and Raising Voices
