Improved soybean - worth singing about
New soybean varieties have greater yields and better drought tolerance

In four districts of central Malawi, farmers have been trialling some new varieties of soybean, developed by the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA). Farmers Blackson Sambo and Rosemary Chiponda explain that the new varieties have many advantages over their traditional ones, including greater yields and better drought tolerance. And soybean breeder, Hailu Tefera, explains how growing soybean helps to increase soil fertility and reduce farmers' fertiliser costs, as well as being a valuable source of income, within a fast-growing market.
